Ice Chendol @ Ghim Moh Food Centre - Golden Swallow Dessert

What beats the hot weather than a bowl of Ice Chendol - was around Ghim Moh Food centrre and decided to pop by to beat the heat. Saw the queue at stall 53 - Golden Swallow Dessert - and decided to get a cold dessert to down the heat - BBF J always tell me that this stall seems to be closed almost every other day and it would be hard to find it open. I happened to visit this food centre a couple of times and well, this stall is forever packed with a queue. So, I wonder if she is telling me that this stall does not open in the late evening - that's the time for working adult's dinner.

So for $1.30, I managed to get a bowl of ice chendol. With all the ingredients like red bean, grass jelly underneath the heap of ice shave, the stallholder poured over the condensed milk and Gula Melaka Syrup. Nice and sinful dessert!

Tonkichi Restaurant- Orchard Central

Please please, do make a reservation before you head to this place, if not, well, you got to wait. Else, please go early before 7pm. Luckily we did both. Reached at 7pm to make a reservation for 7.30pm since the rest will be late - did not really want to occupy their tables while waiting for the rest.

It was a belated Birthday Celebration for Random S. She had cravings for Ramen but she satisfied it the night before. But well, this did not stop us from eating Japanese food tonight! It is forever crowded in Orchard on a Friday Night and I am so glad that Orchard Central remains as a less-crowd and relatively quiet place in the busy town in Singapore. Nonetheless, this place is filled with restaurants which we can happily enjoy our meals.

Been long since I visited Tonkichi and I ordered the Oroshi Rosu Katsu Set. It is a deep fried pork loin with oroshi pontzu sauce top with grated radish (with refreshing  citrus soy sauce). By looking at the description, it had already captured my saliva - with the many different levels of flavours. This set came with cabbage, miso soup, and a plate of fruits.

For the cabbage, you can always ask them to top up, it is free-flow. Remember to add the salad dressing to the cabbage - it tasted great.

For the Katsu, well, it is really a big portion - the pork loin is thick but tender. With the deep fried meat, the radish that came with it gave it a less oily and dry texture. Totally a very filling meal that is worth the money! Had a great night with the girls, chatting till the shop was about to close.

Fantastic service and value for money. Food served fresh with very big portion. Nice ambiance for gathering.

Wingstop Singapore - Bedok Mall

A journey to the east just because Sis has vouchers for Wingstop Singapore - selling chicken wings. It is founded in Texas and in Singapore, there are 11 flavours of wings to choose from. They do not called themselves a Fast Food outlet  as they mentioned that Ëvery order is made fresh when you order it". Well, I agreed as we waited for around 10 minutes for the food to be ready.

Here's the 11 flavours and you can order with the winglets or boneless - for easy eating, boneless is of course the choice.
  1. Original Hot
  2. Cajun
  3. Atomic
  4. Mild
  5. Teriyaki
  6. Lemon Pepper
  7. Hawaiian
  8. Garlic Parmesan
  9. Hickory Smoked BBQ
  10. Louisiana Rub
  11. Oriental Soy Pepper.

The Flavours, the Menu

We ordered the family set of 30 wings (to choose 3 flavours) that comes with 2 side dish, 2 drinks and 2 dips. We had the Garlic Parmesan, the Louisiana Rub and the Lemon Pepper. We tried the boneless chicken and it is really much easier to eat. But well, how can chicken wing be boneless - for better food experience, go for the classic winglets. That's my thoughts.

My verdict - I don't really like it as I found it to be very dry as compared to the Korean outlet 'Ne-Ne Chicken". Not sure if we had ordered the wrong flavour for the first time but the Garlic Parmesan was real dry with the finely-grated parmesan cheese topped on it. The Louisiana Rub is not too bad with the tinge of hot and spicy taste. The Lemon Pepper (which was the boneless) gave us that zest feel - Good after the dry dry Garlic Parmesan.

But I have to say, the sides were great - we had the coleslaw and the fries. The coleslaw is creamy and it does not have the bitter taste which I had tried in some restaurants before. The portion is big and I love it! Next is the hand cut seasoned fries - totally freshly fried as it was served pipping hot. It is those thick cuts where you can really taste the potato in it. Long and thick fries made my day! Dip it into the honey mustard sauce and it is really great! Missing out the potato salad which I hope I can give it a try the next time!

The 30 pieces meal

Well, I won't travel all the way to Bedok Mall for a second helping but there are more outlet out there and I happened to pop by, I will give it a second try since the food is prepared fresh and the sides are irresistible.

Kimchi Korean Restaurant - Suntec City

Annyeonghaseyo - oh well, I just returned from Seoul (do keep a lookout for my posts on Seoul) and today I went into a Korean Restaurant at Suntec City. Princess C recommended that and I guess since she is quite a Korean Fan, it cannot go much wrong.

This restaurant serves grill BBQ. Thus, be prepared to stink if the other patrons ate Grilled meat. There I ordered a can of Peach Juice and  a Seafood Doen Jang Soup with rice. Well, the soup was not as spicy as I thought that would be, given that this dish is given a '2 chilli' rating on the menu. It was just nice for me. I remembered being a seafood soup, I had a Mussel, a prawn, a half lobster (if you deem that to be), a clam and with tofus and mushrooms. I must say, the combination and the taste was good but could we have more seafood?

Oh by the way, I not sure if it is due to the weekend, the service crews were not very attentive and since we marked down our orders on the order chit, I would have expected the service crew to repeat our order to make sure we got them right. Instead, that lady just walked off with our ordering chit and we concluded that she had not paid attention to our remarks - my friend asked for less spicy for her Kimchi soup but it turned out to be super red for the broth. Another asked for less rice and all 4 bowls of rice appeared to be the same. So well, if you are not taking such remarks seriously, why bother have that column in the first place, agree?

Oh, unlike the other Korean restaurants, Kimchi Restaurant does not serve complimentary banchan (side dishes). You need to pay for it at quite an affordable price but I am not sure if they are refillable. Can't really comment on that since we did not order that but I guess it might be a good things since we are not 'forced' to have them on the table and thus, the price of the food are comparatively made cheaper? Well, that's for each individual to determine.

Happy Ever Laughter

One good way to spend the Good Friday was to spend the day with your loves and top it up with a stand up comedy. The couple of us went to watch Happy Ever Laughter, a standup comedy cast by 13 local comedians - a production by Dream Academy. A 2-hour show, where there were (almost) no moments without laughter.

The 13 Jokers, took their stand on a topic of their own - talked and 'discussed'about it with the audience. Taking their own personal experience as the topic, they joked about themselves, about their close one and of course, there were jokes about certain aspects of Singapore. As silly as it could be, the audience could not agree less but to share their sentiments.

I remembered Selena asking this question "Which of the 3 words "Happy Ever Laughter" is the most powerful of all?" And her answer was "Ëver". I agreed with her that's the word, but my thoughts went "Ever is hard to attain especially in the content of happy and laughter. Who doesn't have their story to sob about, who does stay happy always?" But she went "there is because ever can be use to form greater words like ever-lasting, ever -green..." Well, this sets me thinking too.

Anyway, I did enjoyed myself throughout the comedy and the best  part of this show was that, the audience are free to take photos throughout the show, take videos if we want and post them on social media. Woooah... it totally 'violated' the rules and regulations of Esplanade theater. They simply wanted to spread their joy around for people who do not get to watch them live.

I simply love them. Till we meet again, Thanks for the great performance!

Melting pot - Holiday Inn Atrium

Granny's birthday and the family gathered at Melting Point - Holiday Inn Atrium for a celebration.

It is considered an International buffet where there are a 1-for-1 credit card promotion. Not much photos were taken except for the first and last helping of the day. There are different counters for different types of food - the salad counter, the centre counter where there are fresh seafood, satay grilling, lamb and mee soto cooking, the cooked food consists of Asian Cuisine and the dessert counter.

For the seafood counter, I managed to grab a photo - there are mussels, clams, lobsters, sashimi and prawns. Alright, the seafood are fresh, especially the Sashimi and the crab. In our opinion, you will make your money worth by eating lots of crabs and sashimi.

For the cooked food, the variety was just alright - the must try dish (if it does not change its menu) would be the roasted duck and the crayfish. Both are flavourful and have great distinct taste. Further to that, the service crew at the satay corner really had a busy time. The satay was always gone the moment it got landed on the tray. In my opinion, some Singaporeans are really inconsideration - seeing a long queue for the satay, they could happily grab the whole brunch to themselves.

Seafood

I love cakes and there are quite a huge variety of cakes to choose from. The cube size makes it easier to handle especially after a huge dinner prior to that. With the size, we could easily try more variety. Remember to leave some stomach space for other desserts like ice cream and ice kachang!

Cakes

But whether this buffet is worth the money, I think ok with the credit card promotion. Oh by the way, the service crews are quite attentive and the empty plates are cleared promptly.
